6 Days until Singapore...

This year's delegation of Titans embarking on the cultural exchange to Singapore leaves in 4 days (Thursday night) and will arrive in Singapore in 6 days (Saturday afternoon) after 26 hours of travel and crossing 12 time zones.

Choosing a flight to Singapore is a geography lesson in itself.  Singapore is pretty much on the opposite side of the earth, which gives us a lot a lot of flight options to travel there.  There are a lot of options connecting through Japan, in which the plane travels over the Arctic Circle (north of Alaska and Russia) before arriving in Tokyo for the connection.  There are several options through Europe, though these tend to be more expensive due to higher airport taxes.  Sadly, there is no option yet through Hawaii, though geographically this would make a lot of sense and would make for a terrific extended layover.

This year we will be traveling on the world's "five star airline," Qatar Airways, and connecting through Doha, Qatar, thanks to a fantastic fare sale they ran in the winter ($1025 RT Dulles to Singapore!).  Sadly, we won't be able to leave the airport during our seven hour layover as it happens to be late at night, but I'm told there is free wi-fi in the airport, so look for a blog update late Friday night/Saturday morning to find out how we are passing the time during our layover and how we managed on the 14 hour flight to Doha.
